When I first met Olimpio, I was working "crew" on the St. Michael's We Care Telethon in Monroe back in 1989. He was following all of us around like a puppy and at one point he asked me if I wanted to run a television studio for the City of Monroe. Of course I though he was off his rocker however with his persistence and support that is exactly what happened and in July of 1990 I became the first Executive Director of Monroe Public Access Cable Television. People might not know just how integral a part this historic moment in Monroe's history Olimpio played. His determination and dedication to the project was admirable. The Cable Commission had a true champion when he was their Chairman. Olimpio was dedicated to his home life, a Ham Radio Operator who was a true enthusiast and really enjoyed being a part of those two forms of communication. He was a learned man, a scholar and I wish I could remember what he received his degree in still beleive me that in his unassuming way this quirky often times dismissed by those who misunderstood him quiet man, changed the course of history under the administration of the late Sam Mignano and the existence of MPACT (Monroe Public Access Cable Television) is a true memorial to him. God Bless you Olimpio! Thank you and may you rest in peace!
