Glenda Mardelle Kirkland was born in Delano, Tennessee on June 9, 1946.   She was the daughter of Buster Madison Kirkland and Joy Chloey (Moss) Kirkland.   As a young child, Glenda’s family moved to Michigan.   She graduated from Finney High School in Detroit and then continued her studies at Shapiro School of Nursing also in Detroit before obtaining her Registered Nursing Degree from Wayne County Community College.

Glenda was blessed with the birth of two children:  Jennifer and Joseph.   For many years she received her spiritual nourishment at the First Baptist Church.

Working in Monroe and the Downriver Community, Glenda, gave thirty years of her life in service to others.   She was employed in Long-term Care in many capacities from Registered Nurse to Director of Nursing for nursing facilities.

She enjoyed a simple life and was quite the homebody being a part of the unofficial neighborhood watch.   She loved to spend time with her family and especially her grandchildren.   She enjoyed challenging her mind with crossword puzzles, and spending time with her canine companion, Peanut, a miniature Daschund.   The two could often be found watching television together while Glenda sipping her coffee as they enjoyed Coronation Street or Law and Order.
