George and I are first cousins and up until we were about four years old, we lived next door to each other. We used to get in a lot of trouble together; breaking Grampa Runkles glass bottles in his back yard, poking at snakes and other mischief. Once, I got too curious and I fell into a hole dug for garbage. I fell in head first and probably would have suffocated. George, as young as he was, had the presence of mind to run and get an adult to pull me out. I have many fond memories of George and playing in his treehouse and climbing trees in Grandma and Grandpa Nelson's yard.
God bless you George and may you rest in peace.
Your Cousin, Barb (baboo)

George was that father of your friend that every dad should be like, always had an open house for us rowdy teens to mess up, always offered you food or advice like :don't be an idiot" which I should have listened to more... Although sadly gone too early, I will always carry great memories of the fun times over at George's house and I hope to be as cool of a father figure to my kids and their friends as he was to me.

Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear of George's passing. I have so many memories of him. Most of them are good! The memories from "Neib" are the best. George was always teaching Jacob one thing or another. I think that kept them both on their toes! I'm sitting here remembering all the times we went grocery shopping at Kroger on our way home from work and walking into the garage with arms full of groceries and George sitting on the step in his underwear, and how embarrassed YOU got, not him. Funny how seeing George sitting there in nothing but his underwear only bothered you and not him and I. What a character that man was. I'm so glad that I had the privilege to meet and know the "real" George Freeman Runkle! Rest in peace my friend George for I will see you in Heaven one day!
