Earl Ellison was born in Harrogate, Tennessee on November 18, 1937. He was the son of the late Austin H. Ellison Sr. and the late Ella Mae (Bussell) Ellison. At a young age, Earl's family moved from Tennessee to Monroe for work. Earl attended Monroe High School where he received his diploma. He went on to honorably serve in the United States Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Pendleton in California. Earl supported himself as a Salesman for Monroe Novelty for over 40 years. He had a great sense of humor and loved to play practical jokes. Earl was very generous with his talents and he would always lend a helping hand to those in need. His favorite pastime was just hanging out with his brothers. Earl was very skilled with computer repair and he enjoyed playing the guitar with his family when not busy with work. Earl Ellison, age 76 of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a sister: Axie Ivey; and a daughter: Kris Ann Ellison. To cherish his memory, Earl leaves two sons: Shawn (Alaina) Ellison of Onsted and Willis Scott Ellison; a daughter: Paulette (Edward) Gilbert of Adrian; five brothers: Louis (Hazel) Ellison of Monroe, Olis (Elaine) Ellison of Temperance, Harley (Violet) Ellison of Monroe, Austin (Judy) Ellison Jr of Temperance, and Ron Ellison of Maybee; a sister: Yvonne DeNike of LaSalle; numerous grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Cremation took place through Southern Michigan Services in Livonia, Michigan. A Memorial Luncheon will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 12:00pm at the Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138, 400 Jones Avenue at LaPlaisance Road in Monroe. Military honors will follow at 12:30pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. An inurnment will be held at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to VFW Post 1138.
