Obituary of George Brylinsky

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

George Brylinsky was born at the family home in Wyandotte, Michigan on January 20, 1930.   He was one of nine children born to the late Michael Brylinsky and the late Julia (Kasuba) Brylinsky.   He would attend Wyandotte schools graduating from Roosevelt High School with the class of 1948.   Following graduation, George enlisted in the United States Army.   He honorably served his country during the Korean War working as a medic.   He would obtain the rank of Sergeant.

George married the love of his life, the former, Betty Massey in 1954 in St. Helen, Michigan.   The couple would be blessed with the birth of two sons:  Michael and George.   He supported his family with employment at BASF Wyandotte Chemicals for many years.   His work could be dangerous and dirty, many times he even returned home after a tough day with mercury particles in his clothing, leftover from the day’s activities.

As a young man, George being proud of his military service was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.   He also was an avid gardener.   He was blessed with a green thumb growing amazing tomatoes amongst other fine vegetables.

George was well-known for his hearty appetite and his love for homemade food.  For the past five years he made his home with his son Michael and daughter in law Rita.   George often told Rita she was the best cook.   He especially enjoyed kielbasa, sauerkraut, and brussel sprouts.   He always noticed the little things, was full of compliments and generosity and never failed to say thank you.

George Brylinsky, age 90, of South Rockwood passed away unexpectedly at 1:56pm on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Medilodge of Monroe where he had been since December.   In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by his beloved wife:  Betty in 1996 and all eight of his siblings.

To cherish his memory he leaves both sons:  Michael Brylinsky and daughter-in-law Rita of South Rockwood and George Dewey Brylinsky of Wyandotte; one grandson:  Derek Brylinsky; and one great grandson:  Liam Brylinsky.
