Dorthy Jean Taylor was born in born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on February 17, 1955.   She was the daughter of the late John Wesley Pippens and the late Emma Lee (Foster) Taylor.   She attended Dusable High School in Dusable, Illinois.

Dorthy would be blessed with four children.   She married the love of her life Johnnie Edwards in Chicago on February 15, 1982.   Family was her life.   She was especially fond of her immediate family.   Dorthy enjoyed cooking, and she was certainly known as the baker of the family.   This only helped to quell her own sweet tooth.   Always being cold herself, Dorthy loved to feel the warmth of the sun upon her face.   She also loved music and dancing, and all around her knew to watch out, because she was known to start stepping to her favorite tunes.

Dorthy was passionate in her treatment of others.   She was a caregiver through and through, and her work was more than just a job, but a true ministry.   For more than twenty-four years she was employed in long-term care working as a Certified Nursing Assistant.   The past fourteen years of her career she spent at Beach Nursing Home/Medilodge of Monroe.
