Obituary of Margaret Hutchison-Arzinger

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret was born in Linton, Indiana on May 15, 1909 to Scottish immigrants John and Anna (Bryan) Macaulay. John was a coalminer. Anna had a stroke during the birth of her youngest daughter and Margaret became caregiver to her mother and baby sister. Margaret moved with her brother to Flint, Michigan when she was 17 years old to be near her boyfriend Orville Hutchison, who was also from Indiana. They were married January 29, 1927. Margaret and Orville moved to Monroe and started the Independent Dairy in 1934. They worked very hard establishing the family business, which is operated today by their grandsons. They had two children, Betty and Richard. Orville died January 22, 1965. Margaret then married Raymond Arzinger on November 26, 1966 and he died December 19, 1969. Being widowed for many years, Margaret learned to be very independent. She lived on her own and was very sharp-minded until her death. She credits hard work, eating ice cream every day, and knowing everything is in God's hands to her longevity. Margaret loved her family and she loved to work in her yard. People would often stop just to admire her beautiful yard and her flower and rock gardens. She traveled extensively and spent many winters in Florida and Texas. Margaret had many other hobbies including crafting, oil painting, playing cards, knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monroe. To cherish her memory she leaves two children: Betty (LaVern) Cheney and Richard (Eileen) Hutchison; five grandchildren: Cheryl (Gary) Tedder, Mike (Bonnie) Cheney, Roger Cheney, Jeff (Kim) Hutchison, and Holly (John) Malik; step-son: Ray (Pam) Arzinger; eleven great-grandchildren: two step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers: John Macaulay, Tom Macaulay; sisters: Anna Cotillier and Mary McCammon; stepson and daughter-in-law: Ray (Fran) Arzinger, Jr.; stepdaughter and son-in-law: Audrey (Al) Zalonis; and great-grandson: Scott Cheney. Friends may gather from 1:00-8:00pm, Friday, September 13, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe 14567 South Dixie Highway (734) 241-7070 (formerly Bennett Funeral Services).
