Gary Lee Sharp was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 20, 1947. He was the son of the late Richard and Charlotte (Hart) Sharp. Gary graduated from John Glenn High School in 1971 and attended Wayne Community College for two years. He honorably served in the United States Navy as a Corpsman from 1967-1971 obtaining the rank of E4.
Gary married the love of his life, the former Maurine Brockman in Westland on October 14, 1977. From this union came the birth of three daughters. For fourteen years, Gary worked as an X-Ray Technician for Garden City Hospital. He then took employment with General Motors as a Stock Chaser for over twenty-eight years, retiring in 2006.
Gary was a car enthusiast. He enjoyed collecting vehicles and was a member of New Creation Car Club and the Good Time Cruisers. Gary also enjoyed riding motorcycles with his cousin, Rick and best friend, Mike.
Gary most treasured time however was spent with his wife of thirty-five years, daughters, and grandchildren. Playing sports and going camping were both favorite shared activities. Gary was well known for his community involvement, kind spirit, and helping others. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he had served as a deacon the past fifteen years.
Gary age 66 of Monroe, passed away at home on August 30, 2013. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by brother: Robin.
To cherish his memory, Gary leaves behind his loving wife: Maurine of Monroe; daughters: Kristi (Al) Bloink of Redford, Kathleen (Don) Minor of Gaylord, and Shannon (Chad) McElvany of Toledo; five grandchildren: Owen Bloink, Davin Bloink, Alton Minor, Errol McElvany, and Kira McElvany; three sisters: Donna Reed, Cindy (Dave) Allan, and Brenda (Bill) Dewulf; and three brothers: Richard (Shelly) Sharp, Tom (Debbie) Sharp, and Shawn (Carla) Sharp.
Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Monday, September 2, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. Gary will lie-in-state from 10:00am until funeral services at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 108 Washington. Pastor Jessica Myers will officiate. Burial will take place at Cadillac Memorial Gardens in Westland where military honors will be provided.
