Roy Herbert Grindle was born in Livermore Falls, Maine on March 10, 1950. He was the son of the late Justin and Wilma Grindle. Roy graduated high school and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy, and married the love of his life Elaine Sallai on August 5, 1986 in Ypsilanti. Roy was a union pipe layer. For well over twenty years he worked in the excavating business. He had a strong passion for his trade through the day he retired from Star Excavating in 1999. Roy loved spending time at the horse track with his wife, who also was one who enjoyed gambling. Casinos, scratch-offs, and the lotto were some of his past times. Roy appreciated the outdoors; he loved hunting and fishing, watching the sunset and sunrise -and just being outside. Roy loved his coffee as if it was water. He loved making people laugh and was a great story teller. He had a new joke at every encounter. Roy took a liking to his Ford's, especially the 70's and older. He was a dedicated husband, worker, and parent. Roy was a lifetime Detroit Tigers fan, and also loved watching football and his old Western television shows. Roy, age 63 of Monroe passed away peacefully at Mercy Memorial Hospital with family and his dog Rambo at his side at 5:37am,Tuesday, August 27, 2013. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by his wife, Elaine, on July 9, 2009. To cherish his memory he leaves one son: Brian Lord of Port Austin; daughter: Krystal Sallai of Monroe; daughter: Annie Cebina of Monroe; a beloved pet, 14 yr old Pekingese dog: Rambo; four sisters: Marcia, Sheila, Marilyn of Kennebunkport, Maine and Mary of California; two brothers: Stacey and Alden of Kennebunkport, Maine; one brother in-law Bob Sallai, sister in law Maryann (Larry) Williams, two nieces Jennifer (Jake) Tuttle, and Heather (Bill) Buckingham; grandchildren: Brent and Brenden Lord; great nephew Bennett Buckingham, and two great nieces: Charli Tuttle and Vera Buckingham . Cremation has taken place, Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with arrangements. Interment service will be held Thursday September 5, 2013 at 2:30pm at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan where military honors will be provided.
