Obituary of Thomas Sachs

Thomas Frederick Sachs was born in Monroe, Michigan on December 13, 1958. He was the youngest of three boys born from the union of Frederick Sachs and Donna (Gross) Sachs. Tom attended Monroe Schools graduating in 1977. He married the love of his life the former DeeAnn Marie Hill on June 23, 1978 at Grace Lutheran Church, and from this union would come the birth of two boys. Tom served as the first manager of U-Haul in Monroe, and then for twelve years he worked as a licensed carpenter. Working with his hands was a lifetime passion, and Tom would build many items including his home, furniture for family, and loved home improvement projects. For the past twenty years, Tom had been employed by Ford Motor Company at their Milan Stamping Plant and most recently at Woodhaven Forging. He was a member of UAW Local 387. Tom and DeeAnn loved being outside and enjoyed sharing activities with their family including: camping, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking. They were members of the Monroe Camping Club sharing many summer and autumn memories at state parks and enjoyed their permanent site at Hass Lake. Tom was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church. Tom Sachs age 54 of Carleton passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 18, 2013 after a lengthy illness. His loving family was caring for him at his side under the care of St. Joseph Hospice. To cherish his memory, Tom leaves a beloved wife: DeeAnn of Carleton; two sons: Derek (Stacy) Sachs of Romulus and Ryan (Jennifer) Sachs of Erie; his loving parents: Frederick and Donna Sachs of Monroe; two brothers: Larry (Debi) of Monroe and Kim of Freeland, Michigan; four grandchildren: Lucas, Austin, Kaylin, and Ethan Sachs with a grandbaby on the way. Cremation has taken place. Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm, Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. He will lie in state from 10:00am until a funeral service at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 21 at Grace Lutheran Church, 630 North Monroe. Pastor Ronald Schultz will officiate. A memorial luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church, Ladies Aide Society at Grace, or to Hope Lodge in Grand Rapids.
