H. Ron Gillum, age 73, of Dundee, Michigan, passed away at 4:00 A.M., Saturday , December 11, 2010 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township after a long illness. He was born in Ashland, Kentucky June 2, 1937 to Earl and Arizona (Fields) Gillum. He married Betty Jean Copley on August 5, 1978. Ron had served in the United States Air Force, graduated from the F.B.I. Academy and was a Lt. and Division Commander in the Ashland, Kentucky Police Department retiring in 1986.. Following his retirement he also served as a security officer at. St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was also a member of Phoenix Lodge # 13, F & AM in Ypsilanti. Friends may call on Monday from 4 – 9 P.M. at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). His funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, December 14, 2010 with Rev. Michael Clemmer, pastor of the Deerfield United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Union Udell Cemetery in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Memorials may be made to Operation Christmas Child in care of the Deerfield United Methodist Church, 110 Williams Street, Deerfield, Michigan 49238.
Ron’s survivors include his wife Betty; sons Ronny Gillum and Eddie Gillum both of Virginia and William Neely, Jr. of Napoleon, Michigan; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Robert Neely.
