Elizabeth "Betty" Mae Halliday was born in Monroe, Michigan on August 29, 1950. She was the daughter of the late Francis Halliday and Birdie (Willett) Halliday. Betty was a graduate of Jefferson High School. For many years, Betty supported her family as Manager at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3943 in Newport, Michigan. She retired in 2011 after more than twenty-five years of service. Betty absolutely loved children. For fourteen years she was a playground aide for Jefferson Schools. Betty was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Monroe and she highly valued the time she spent with her friends. On occasion the girls would visit a local casino to take their chance at "winning it big." Betty was extremely loyal and treasured her family, always looking for the chance to spoil her grandchildren. She was also a lover of four legged friends sharing her home with several pets over the years. For many years, Betty shared her life with her companion Alden Benore. Elizabeth "Betty" Mae Halliday, age 62 of Monroe passed away at 6:15pm on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at The Toledo Hospital. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by her life-long companion: Alden Benore; one sister: Ruth Halliday; and two brothers: Gregory Halliday and Danny Halliday. To cherish her memory, she leaves behind a son: Jeffrey (Sara) Halliday of Monroe; two grandchildren: Brianna and Hanna Halliday of Monroe; and one brother: Robert (Carol) Halliday of Taylor. Cremation has taken place. Private inurnment will be arranged at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, Michigan for a later date. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with her arrangements. Memorial donations for those who desire are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
