Obituary of Vernon L. Hehl

Vernon L. Hehl, age 92 of Dundee and formerly of Ida, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Wellspring Lutheran Home in Monroe. He was born at the family home on Albain Road in LaSalle Township, Michigan June 30, 1923 the son of Elmer and Laura (Hoppert) Hehl. He married CoraBelle L. (Corkey) Crombez August 25, 1942 at the East Ida Church. Officiating was the Rev. Arnold Kluge. He graduated from Ida High School in 1941. He served in the US Army as a Tec 5 from 1945 to 1946. He was stationed for infantry training at Camp Maxey, TX and was sent overseas to Okinawa then to mainland Japan. He spent time in Tokyo, Yokohama, Kobe, Nagoya and Osaka. He was in the 3014 Engineer Maintenance Co. of the 8th Army. His career was as a pressman for the Toledo Blade Newspaper for 32 years, retiring July 1, 1988. He was a member of the International Printing Pressman Union of America. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee and is a formerly of the American Legion Post # 514 in Ida. His survivors include daughters Sherry (Alvin) Strack of Tecumseh, Roxanne (Charles)(Bink) Boll of Ida; Jene’ (Patrick) Funk of Dundee and Lori Lan also of Dundee; grandchildren Christina Gans, Kandi Jurek, Patrick May, Kelly May, Heidi Bellaire, Corey Goethe, Sara Buhl, Ryanne Woern, Ashley King, Joseph Funk; step-grandchildren Christopher Strack, Ronald Strack, Scott Strack; also 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife CoraBelle, grandson Chuckie Boll in 1993, sister Myrna O’Lone, brothers Glenn, Donald and Clayton Hehl. . Friends may call on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 10 AM until memorial services at 11 AM at St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee. Officiating is Rev. Jennifer Kiefer, pastor of the church. Military honors will be held after the funeral by the Dundee Veterans Memorial Group. Funeral luncheon will follow the services at the parish hall. He and Corkey’s cremains will be interred at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park. In accordance with his wishes cremation has been held.
