Obituary of Russell E. Missler

Russell Edwin Missler, age 87 of Dundee, passed away at 10:48 PM, Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Aspen Grove in Lambertville. He was born in Monroe December 9, 1928 th e son of Merlyn and Grace (Heisler) Missler. Russ graduated from Dundee High School. He enlisted in the US Army 1 Sep 48 and was discharged 24 June 52. He attained the rank of staff sergeant serving in the Armored Tank Division. He was stationed at Fr. Knox, Kentucky, Fulda, Germany and his last 3 months at Ft. Custer. He married the former Janice L. Cardinal on September 20, 1952 at St John Lutheran Church in Dundee. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2002. He had worked for Texaco in Dundee, was co-owner of Dundee Concrete Company and retired from the Ford Motor Rawsonville Plant in 1990 after 25 years there. He was an avid woodworker and golfer. He played on leagues in Dundee with the Dundee Businessmen and the Monroe County Sheriff League and once had a hole-in-one He was also a member of both the Harry W. Bamm American Legion Post 72 and the Moore-Lenz-Wakefield VFW Post 6462. His survivors include his wife Janice; daughters Vicky (Ron) Ziesmer of Dundee and Toni Missler-Miller of Wayne; grand-children Jason Ziesmer, Ryan Ziesmer, Christine Hagerman,Devon Kilbourn, Cody Rathbone, Andrea Benschoter and Dalton Walien; great-grandchildren Caitlin Ziesmer, Chelsea Ziesmer, Logan Johnson, Kameron Hagerman, Collin Hagerman and Makenna Hagerman; a brother Warren Missler of Findlay, Ohio. He was preceded by his parents, daughter Jo Knitter in 2011, and brothers Robert, Arnold and Gerald. Friends may call on Monday from 2 – 8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee. He will lie in state Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 10 AM until 11 AM services at St. John Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. Jennifer Kiefer, pastor of the church. Military services will be held at the church by the Dundee Veterans Memorial Group. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.
