Obituary of Ronald E. Kanitz

Ronald E. Kanitz, age 91, of Dundee, passed away at Wellspring Lutheran Home in Monroe on Saturday, December 5, 2015. He was born in Milan, Michigan June 12, 1924 the son of Clarence and Effie (Cain) Kanitz. He joined the United States Marine Corps and served as a sergeant during World War II. He fought at Guam and Iwo Jima. He married the former Joyce M. Libbey July 12, 1946 at the Milan United Methodist Church. For many years he was a building contractor then went to work for the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor before retiring. He was a member of the Dundee United Methodist Church, the Dundee Optomist Club, The Dundee Masonic Lodge # 74 F & AM which merged with Milan Lodge # 323 F & AM. , the Dundee Golf Club, and was a member of the original Dundee Planning Commission. Ron had a wonderful sense of humor and never knew a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, also gardening, hunting and golfing. Once for a year he had an artificial cow in his yard which he moved daily to the amazement of kids and adults alike. Many people never knew it wasn’t a real cow. Survivors are his wife Joyce; daughter Randi (David) Kominek of Ida; sons Scott (Sue) of Milan and Chris (Lana) of Dundee; sister Virginia Green of Kalamazoo; grandchildren Kurt Kominek of Adrian, Alex (Tammy) Kominek of Perrysburg, OH., Katie (John) Temporiti of St. Louis, MO., Brent (Abby) Kanitz of Grand Rapids, MI., Dean (Erin) Kanitz of Okemos, MI. and Corey (Michelle) Kanitz of Farmington, MI; 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert and sister Jean Falk. Friends may call Friday, December 11, 2015 from 10 AM until services at 12 Noon at the Dundee United Methodist Church, Sidney at Franklin Streets. Co-officiants Rev. Andy Baek and Rev Douglas Olsen. Military services will be conducted by the Dundee Military Veterans Group.
