Obituary of Howard J. Heiden

Howard J. Heiden, age 95 of Britton and Dundee, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Cambrian Assisted Living Center in Tecumseh. H e was born on the family farm in Raisinville Township July 6, 1920 the son of John and Agnes (Brockman) Heiden. He was a graduate of Dundee High School in 1938 and the Michigan State short course. He then became a milk tester in Lansing. He had farmed his entire life in Raisinville and Ridgeway Townships and also worked at Tecumseh Products until retiring in 1984 after 34 years there. He loved baseball and played in Dundee. He married Margaret Foster in 1946. She passed away January 18, 1973. He then married Barbara M. Steger March 26, 1977. Survivors include his wife Barbara Heiden; sons Ronald (Laura) Heiden of Gaylord, and James (Annette) Heiden of Clinton; daughter Marilyn (Terry) Welch of Dundee; stepsons Paul F. (Carol) Steger, John I. (JoAnn) Steger of Dundee and James D. Steger of Adrian; step daughter Nora Brunt of Toledo and Mary (Jerry) Mumma of Toledo; 21 grandchildren including Julie (Dan) Kocht, Nicole (Michael) Bomia, Eric (Carla) Heiden, Lindsey Phillips, Ashley (Jess) Neely, Ethan (Elizabeth) Heiden and Rachel (Zack) Blea, Ron (Joy) Brunt, Dianna (Timothy) Shunk, Jacqueline (Frank) McCullough, Christine Brunt, Aimee (Dylan) Randazzo, Steven (Kim) Mumma, Paul J. Steger, Jennifer Swartz, Jessica (David) Rios, John C. Steger, Nicole Steger, Courtney Steger, Cassidy Steger and Wayne Brown; 34 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, stillborn daughter Carol and wife Margaret. Friends may call on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 12 – 3 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 3:00 PM. Officiating will be Rev. James Schenck, pastor of the Britton Congregational Church. Private interment will be held at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee.
