Obituary of Ellen N. Kay

Ellen N. Kay, age 83, of Dundee passed away April 12, 2013 at the Westland Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center following a short illness. She was born in in Dearborn, Michigan June 22, 1929 the daughter of Stephen and Dorothy (White) Traxler. She married David C. Kay September 5, 1953 at Paw Paw, Michigan. Sadly David preceded her in death on December 21, 1989. Ellen graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1947. She then graduated from the University of Michigan in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and in the 1960’s received her Masters Degree. She was an elementary school teacher at Dundee Community Schools and had served for 35 years in teaching. She was an active member of the Dundee United Methodist Church; was the church choir director for over 50 years; started a widow’s group at the church; was a member of the Civic Association; the United Methodist Women’s Group; was a C.A.S.A volunteer (Court Appointed Special Advocate); received the Lilly Award; was chairman of the Dundee Library Board and was instrumental in building the new Dundee Library; also was a member of the Dundee Jaycees Auxiliary. She also loved U of M sporting events and football games being a graduate there. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Stephen (Jamie) Kay of Westland and Michael (Sue) Kay of Tallahassee, Florida; grandchildren Zachary Kay, Kristen Kay, Jessica Kay, David Kay, Adam Kay and Benjamin Kay. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother Donald Traxler. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 – 8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). She will lie in state on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 10 AM until services at 11 AM at the Dundee United Methodist Church, Sidney at Franklin Streets. Officiating will be the Rev.
