Obituary of Joseph H. Chlebek

Joseph H. Chlebek , age 69, of Dundee passed away at his home Friday, March 29, 2013 following a long illness. He was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania on July 29, 1943 the son of Walter and Julia (Oberly) Chlebek. He married Barbara Makohon October 9, 1965 in Detroit. Joe was raised in Uniontown and came to Detroit as a teenager. He attended Chadsey High School in Detroit, received his GED then joined the US Army. He served as a PFCR3 from 1960 to 1963 and was stationed in Germany. He had also lived in Inkster, Petersburg, Britton and Dundee. He retired from GM Willow Run as a maintenance man in July 1993. He had put in 30 years with GM. He also worked for M-50 Truck, Tractor & Auto and was a maintenance man at the Dundee Housing Commission but his special joy was antiques and working at Hitching Post Antiques in Tecumseh. He did the maintenance and furniture refinishing. He also loved antique cars. He is survived by his son Kevin Chlebek of Dundee, daughter JoAnne (Stefan) Karpuk of Dearborn Hts; his companion Mary Lou Butchko of Dundee; sisters Barbara Avigne of Inkster and Beatrice Hardt of Westland; brother Stanley (Betty) Chlebek of Petersburg. He was preceded in death by brothers Walter, John and Bernard and sister Beverly Chlebek as well as his parents and stepfather Richard Orsette. Friends may call on Tuesday from 1 – 8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). Funeral services will take place at the funeral home at 11 AM, Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Officiating will be the Rev. Rick Jewett, pastor of the Deerfield Free Methodist Church. Cremation will follow the services at Tri-County Crematory in Ypsilanti..
