Obituary of Glenn E. Bayer

Glenn Eugene Bayer, age 86, of Monroe, Michigan, passed away at his home under the care of his family and hospice on Wednesday, December 19, 2012. He was born in Lockport, New York on December 29, 1925 the son of Carl and Margaret (Drake) Bayer. He joined the army when he was 18 and was a member of the 245th Infantry and the 226 MP. He served his country in Guam during World War II in the US Army with enlistment from 1944-1947. He retired in 1971 from the C & O Railroad as a carman after 22 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 514. Glenn married Cirrrelda (French ) King on August 18, 1979. He was an active member of the Dundee Area Senior Citizens working in the kitchen and delivering meals on wheels. He was active in Boy Scouts as a boy in New York. When his kids attended Ida schools he was a scout master and managed a little league team. He loved family; bowling, the Dundee Fun Band; and volunteered at soup kitchens in Monroe, Beach’s Nursing Home and the American Red Cross. In 1995 he was named Senior of the Month at the Dundee Senior Citizens Center. Glenn was also very active in the Dundee Lodge # 206 Knights of Pythias. He also was a athletic booster at Summerfield Schools. He is survived by his wife Cirrelda, children Gaylord Bayer, Steve Kreps, Dianna Bayer, Jonathon Bayer and Daniel Bayer; stepchildren Kathleen Zibbell, Douglas King, Marilynn Rohrbach And Holly Fiedler. Also 14 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren. And a sister Lyola (Lee) Pridemore. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Leonard (Benny) and Gaylord Bayer. Friends may call on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 11 AM until services at 1 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156) Officiating will be the Rev. Bradford Lewis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Monroe. Interment will follow in the King Cemetery in Raisinville Township. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Dundee Veterans Military Group.
