Geraldine "Gerrie" Elizabeth Brown July 23, 1930 - July 10, 2013 Geraldine "Gerrie" Elizabeth Brown, 82, of Cumberland, MD, while visiting her daughter in Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Saint Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, OH, surrounded by her family. Born July 23, 1930, in Wheeling, WV, Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late John William Read and Lillian A. (Grove) Read. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 33 years: James Aloysius Brown, November 18, 2010; and a sister, Edna K. Ricketts A graduate of Fort Hill High School, Class of 1948, Gerrie retired from Sears & Roebuck Department Store. She was a member of the LaVale United Methodist Church and also attended the Solid Rock Independent Baptist Church. Gerrie did volunteer work at Dr. Espina's Office and at the WMHS-Braddock Campus Hospital Auxiliary. Gerrie was a special grandmother and great grandmother never missing a ball game, dance recital, or special occasion often traveling to Michigan to enjoy her family there. She was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and would often send meals and her "special" homemade bread to anyone in need. Gerrie loved to travel with her late husband, Jim, and they enjoyed many special trips including a trip to the Holy Land. Gerrie is survived by her daughters: Linda Lee Luci and husband, Alex, Erie, MI; Sharon Sue Clark and husband, Charles, II; and Joyce Kay Lapp and husband, George, all of Cumberland, MD; her stepdaughter: Bonnie Lee McGolerick and husband, Ron, Keedysville, MD: and her stepson: Brian J. Brown, Cumberland, MD. She also leaves behind her sister: Janis L. Walker and husband, Robert, Surfside, SC; her grandchildren: Sacha Lynn Moore and husband, Dave, Ida, MI; Shallon Smith and wife, Diana, Temperance, MI; Charles H. Clark, III, and wife, Heather, Fort Ashby, WV; her great grandchildren: Andrew Scott, Lucas Moore, and Parker Moore, all of Ida, MI; Sydney and Summer Smith, Temperance, MI; and Peyton and Addison Clark, both of Fort Ashby, WV; and an honorary granddaughter: Molly Miller Donahue, Cumberland, MD. Friends were received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Sunday, July 14, 2013, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 5:00 P.M., to 7:00 P.M. A celebration of her life was conducted at the LaVale United Methodist Church on Monday, July 15, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Bernadette Ross and Reverend John Klink officiating. Interment was in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. The family requested that memorials be made in Gerrie's name to the LaVale United Methodist Church, 565 National Highway, LaVale, MD 21502; or, the Solid Rock Independent Baptist Church, 12510 Corrigan Drive, Corriganville, MD 21524.
