Obituary of Philip A. Weiss

Philip A. Weiss, age 66, of Dundee, passed away Monday afternoon , December 26, 2011 at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan March 24, 1945 the son of Otto and Lois (Dunkle) Weiss. He was raised in Ida, Michigan and graduated from Ida High School in 1963. Other than the time he spent in the Air Force he was a lifetime resident of Monroe County. He worked for the State of Michigan as a veterans employment interviewer. He started in the Monroe office then moved to the Ypsilanti office where he retired in 2007. He is a regular attendee of the Crossroads Community Church in Ottawa Lake. He enjoyed biking, camping, travelling, the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions but especially loved spending time with his family. He married Vickie M. (Brown) Conley October 4, 1986 at the Dundee Baptist Church. He had also served his county in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. He enlisted August 27, 1965 and was honorably discharged January 1, 1969. He is a member of the D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans) Chapter # 13 in Ypsilanti . His survivors include his wife Vickie; sons William (Carlen) Weiss of Kansas City, Kansas and Shane Conley of Dundee; daughters Judith Kristine (Mark) Howard of Toledo and Misti (Mark) Burtscher of Temperance; fifteen grand –children and one great-grandchild; brothers Wesley (Pamela) Weiss and Wayne Weiss both of Ida; sister Martha (Art) Ratner of Oakland, California, also his father in law Julian Brown of Dundee. Friends may call on Friday from 12 – 9 P.M. at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156) He will lie in state on Saturday, December 31, 2011 from 10:00 A.M. until a 11:00 A.M service at Cornerstone Baptist Church 4000 Lewis Ave in Ida. Burial at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee with graveside military honors by the Dundee Veterans Group.. Officiating will be Pastor Tim Iocoangeli.
