Obituary of Claribel Rod

Claribel Rod, 98, of Dundee, passed away Friday, Feb. 11,2011 at Arbor Hospice. She was born in Northville, Michigan April 28, 1912 to Henry and Agnes (Ashley) Bigelow. She married Clarence C. Rod, the Dundee Fire Chief of many years on September 26, 1937. They were married for 41 years until he passed away June 21, 1979. Claribel was a very proud and active member of the Dundee Community during her entire life but was especially proud of her family. She co-owned Rod’s Greenhouse for 24 years; was the secretary –bookkeeper at Karner Elevator for many years; was the secretary at Rawson Place – Dundee Housing Commission; was the Dundee Township clerk for 28 consecutive years; was a member of the Dundee Fire Dept Auxiliary; the Moore-Lenz-Wakefield VFW; Milan Rebekah Clematis #99; Pythian Sisters Minnehaha Temple of Tipton; the Milan Ruth Chapter 106 Order of the Eastern Star; member of the Dundee Senior Citizens where she was on the Board of Directors as Chairperson and Secretary and also on its Advisory Board; received the IOOF Degree of Chivalry; 1995 Village of Dundee Citizen of the Year Award; received the Michigan Minuteman Award; graduated from Dundee High School 1929 and was class salutatorian; and was a talented pianist playing with the Dundee Fun Band. Her survivors include two sons; JB (Judy) Rod of Dundee and Tim (Peggy) Rod of Traverse City; daughter Marilyn (Kirk) Blessing of Deltona, FL; grandchildren Tonya (Trey) Ritter, Tiffany Rod, Kevin (Tonya) Rod, Jeffrey (Michelle) Rod, Ron Buck and Shelly Buck; great-grandchildren Brittany, Logan, Austin, Kyler, Jacob and Lucas. She was preceded by her husband, sisters Mary Weyher and Sue Murray, and brothers Delton (Sonny) Bigelow and Ronald Bigelow. Friends may call Sunday 2-8 PM and Monday 1-8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156) Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 15,2011 at 11:00 A.M.at the funeral home. Officiating Rev. Douglas Olsen, pastor of the Dundee United Methodist Church. Interment at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee. VFW Auxiliary Service Monday 7:00 P.M. O.E.S.
