Gertrude P. Rod, age 96, of Dundee, Michigan, passed away at 8:15 A.M., Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Magnum Health Care in Monroe. Gertrude was born in Fowlerville, Michigan January 25, 1916 the daughter of Alphonso and Mary (Rehberg) Rod. She graduated from Dundee High School in 1934 and was the Village of Dundee treasurer for 50 years, retiring in 2006. She had worked at Mitchell’s Sweet Shop in downtown Dundee from her high school years until Spero Mitchell decided to retire and close the store in the early 1980’s. She was involved with Dundee Civil Defense during the war. She loved spending time with her family, gardening, tutoring, was an avid reader and was a Detroit Tigers Fan. Friends may call on Tuesday from 12-4 and 5 – 8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156) Her funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the funeral home with Rev. Douglas Olsen, pastor of Dundee United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee. Memorials in her memory may be made to the Dundee Volunteer Fire Department or to the Charles Schrader Scholarship Fund at Dundee Community Schools. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Clarence, Dallas, and Edward Rod and sister Jeanette Schrader.
