Obituary of John F. Barnier

John F. Barnier, Sr., age 71 of Petersburg, passed away Thursday morning, August 8, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family and hospice. He was born June 4, 1942 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada to Francis and Mary (Aiston) Barnier. He attended Milan and Dundee Schools and joined the United States Army. His enlistment was from August 15, 1967 until August 14, 1969. He attained the rank of SP4. He married Claudette I. Profitt on March 15, 1969 in Petersburg. He retired from Milan Cast Metal in 2004 after 33 years employment. Prior to Milan Cast Metal he had worked at Dundee Castings Company. John is a member of the Harry W. Bamm American Legion Post # 72 in Dundee. He was a morel mushroom aficionado; loved the Detroit Lions and followed all the Michigan sports teams. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their school events. John’s survivors include his wife Claudette; daughter Rebecca Branch of Florida; sons John F. Jr (Brandie) Barnier of Ida and Bill (Sherry) Barnier of Saline; grandchildren Tiffany Stewart, Ashleigh Oberski, John Barnier III, Seth Barnier, Emma Barnier, Keagan Tian, Megan Barnier and Luke Barnier; great-grandchildren Colin Oberski and Elizabeth Stewart; brother Berle (Cheryl) Barnier of Maybee and sisters Betty Norris of Milan, Ina (Clayton) Dougherty of Petersburg, Mary Lamkin of Pittsfield Twp., Ester Secor of Dundee and Darlene Rhoton of Monroe; also his very close friends Tom and Tremaine Boldt, Lewis and Joan Roe and Jose and Shelley Hufford. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Daniel, Sonny and Sidney. Friends may call on Monday, August 12, 2013 from 10 AM until memorial services at 11 AM at Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). Officiating is Rev. Don Brown, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Dundee. At 12:30 P.M. there will be military honors at the Dundee Veterans Building, Dunham at McBride Streets with a funeral luncheon to follow. In accordance with his wishes cremation has been held.
