Obituary of Vera Taylor

Vera Pauline "Polly" Preston was born in Percell, Oklahoma on May 12, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Frank Preston and the late Clara (Terry) Preston. Vera married Wayne Taylor on December 29, 1950 in Angola, Indiana. From this union came four children and Vera was a homemaker until Wayne's passing on September 19, 1962. Vera had an amazing energy level. After Wayne's death she had to learn how to drive. She was dependable always coming and going. Polly was productive, outgoing, and always kept an immaculate home. She had attended Lewis Avenue Baptist Church. For six years, Vera served as a Den Mother for the Samaria & Ida Cub Scouts. She was employed for seventeen years at Bedford High School in their food service program serving several years as a Union Steward. In her free time Vera raised more than two hundred rabbits, kenneled ten to twelve St. Bernard's, worked at the Lion's Den, and loved to Garden. She was also a past mentor at Douglas Road Elementary School reading to 2nd & 3rd graders. Vera only had an eighth grade education but was truly blessed with a Master's Degree in Common Sense. She was a fan of the Detroit Tigers. Vera "Polly" Taylor age 92 of Temperance passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 at Hickory Ridge of Temperance. In addition to her parents and her husband her passing was preceded by a half-brother: John "Jack" Preston. To cherish her memory, Vera leaves four children: Frank Taylor of Monroe, Dan (Rose) Taylor of Erie, Brady Taylor of Monroe and Rosemarie Taylor of Toledo; twelve grandchildren: Justin (Chanel) Taylor, Josh (Angela) Taylor, Lindsay Taylor, Wayne (Debbie) Taylor, Douglas Taylor, Shawn (Amy) Cousino, Erica (Chad) Brockway, Jeremy Taylor, Danielle Taylor, Melanie Custer, Chris Custer, and Nicole Custer; and twenty-five great grandchildren. Friends may gather from 1:00-8:00pm, Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 9156 Summit Street in Erie (734) 848-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 11:00am, Wednesday, May 22, 2013 also at Merkle's. Procession will follow to Bedford Memorial Gardens for burial. Memorial for those who desire are suggested to the Humane Society of Monroe.
