Frances Ethel Palanzo was born in Roanoke County, Virginia on October 6, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Palanzo and the late Mamie (Loomis) Palanzo. Frances moved from Roanoke, Virginia in 1945 to Monroe to be close to her family. Frances married the love of her life, Willard Shaw, in Monroe on August 8, 1951. From this union came the birth of three children. She proudly took care of her home and three children as a homemaker. Frances was nicknamed "Sassy" as a child and she lived up to it. She was always very family-oriented and loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. Frances relished family gatherings, holidays at the house, and any time she could spend with her grandchildren. In her quiet times, she took pleasure in writing poetry. She enjoyed watching sports and some of her favorite teams included the Detroit Pistons, the Detroit Tigers, and Dale Jarrett of the NASCAR racing series. Frances Ethel Shaw, age 85 of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Medilodge in Monroe. In addition to her parents and husband, her passing was preceded by a step-mother: Lillian Palanzo; a brother: Roy "Moot" Palanzo; and a sister: Evelyn Coch. To cherish her memory she leaves behind two daughters: Brenda Dykes of Monroe and Laura (Dan) Scholl of Ida; one son: Willie Shaw of Newport; one sister in law: Centa Palanzo; four grandchildren: Jeremy (Sascha Huss) Dykes, Kelly (Chris) Arthurs, Joshua Scholl and Kurt Scholl; eight great grandchildren: Swayze, Breanna, Tiffany, Brendan, Brittany, Alexis, Matthew, and Joseph; one great-great grandchild: Lucas; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, Monroe (734) 384-5185. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Friday, May 10, 2013 at Bennett Funeral Services, 14567 S.
