Laura Black

Obituary of Laura Anne Black

Laura Anne Powers was born February 15, 1963 in Ann Arbor. She was one of two children born from the union of Dallas Powers and Carol (Brooks) Powers. She also had two half-sisters born from the union of Carol Powers and Steve York. She received her education at Monroe High School and graduated with the class of 1981. She furthered her education by attending college at MCCC until securing a job at Ford Motor Company as a welder where she worked for 25 years to support her family. She met and fell in love with Glenn Black, whom she married on April 4, 1987 and shared thirty-one beautiful years together.

Laura was outgoing and had a strong-willed personality who enjoyed doing many things. To name a few, she liked playing horseshoes, corn hole, bowling, drawing and singing her “go to” karaoke jam: Wooly Bully. She loved to watch fireworks and looked forward to the beautiful show of colors in the sky.  She enjoyed the outdoors by going fishing or camping.

Time spent with family meant the most to her. She enjoyed taking care of others and was “Mom” and caregiver to more than just her own children. She had a nurturing soul and loved to cook for everyone. Sunday dinners spent around the house with food, games, and cards will be missed greatly by those closest to her.

Laura Anne Black, age 55, of Luna Pier, passed away suddenly at her home on Sunday, April 15, 2018. In addition to her passing, she is preceded in death by her step-father: Steve York and her sister: Jill York.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her beloved husband: Glenn Black; her children: Joseph (Sam) Powers, Dyanna Adkins, Paul Black, Nick Black and Spencer Foley; her mother: Carol York; her father: Dallas Powers; her sister: Lori Panza; her brother: Dallas (Lynnette) Powers; her grandchildren: Jordan, Joslyn, Nya, Dyanna, Kyra, Fayelyn and Karter and many extended family members and friends.
