Stella May Farner June 15, 1952 - February 22, 2013 Stella May Farner was born June 15, 1952 in Newport, Michigan where she resided her entire life. She was the daughter of the late James Foster and Leona (Frey) Foster. She graduated from St. Mary Academy and obtained her Cosmetology License from the State College of Beauty formerly in the Downriver area. Stella married the love of her life John Farner at St. Charles Catholic Church in 1973. From this union came the birth of two children. For many years, Stella served others as a self-employed beautician. Stella's work took her to many local nursing facilities to cut hair. Stella was a remarkable woman, always putting others first, and she was genuinely happy. There wasn't a day that went by that she was not seen smiling. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed the tranquility of her fish pond. Stella was an animal lover and over the years acquired many pets. She was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her granddaughter. Stella was outgoing and liked to cater to her guests during family get-togethers. On nice days, she appreciated nature walks and riding her bicycle. In her spare time, she liked to shop for clothing and go to the movies. Stella May Farner, age 60 of Newport passed away at her home after a short battle with breast cancer. In addition to her grandparents and father her passing was preceded by a father-in-law: Herbert Farner. To cherish her memory, Stella leaves her husband: John of Newport; mother: Leona Foster of Monroe; mother-in-law: Mary Farner of Monroe; two children: Shawn (Jessica Schmidt) Farner and Sarah Elizabeth Farner both of Newport; one brother: Garry Foster of South Rockwood; one nephew: Matthew Foster; one niece: Mary (John) Kinsey; and one granddaughter: Abigail Marie Farner. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. She will lie in state from 11:00am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 12:00, Noon on Monday, February 25, 2013 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 8125 Swan Creek Road with Father Matthew Bonk of Louisiana officiating. Procession will follow to St. Charles Cemetery for burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
