Joe Than Cox was born in Maryville, Tennessee on April 18, 1947. He was the son of the late Daniel Cox and the late Betty (Word) Cox. Joe served his country proudly in the United States Navy.
As a young man Joe enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid hunter. Joe loved the freedom of the open road working as a truck driver for many years. He also cherished the wind in his face and the beauty of his motorcycle.
Joe Than Cox age 65 of Monroe passed away at his home on Friday, February 1, 2013. He had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by one sister: Rosa Cox and one brother: David Cox.
He is survived by one nephew: Gary Cox of Valrico, Florida; two nieces: Barbara Ray and Brenda West both of Monroe; three great nephews and two great nieces.
Joe had a desire to help others and chose to gift himself to science for medical research through Genlife Institute. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 was entrusted with his local arrangements. Graveside services and inurnment will take place at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle.
