My Favorite Uncle.... Uncle Wayman, I will always cherish the moments we shared asfamily from a young kid , to teenager, to a man. I always looked up to you and my dad (Thurman). I remember telling my friends as a kid that I was going to watch my Uncle Wayman fight the main event on TV on thursday nights and they would just think I was nuts. So I brought them over to watch and their mouths would drop when they actually saw him on TV. When he would win a fight, he sometimes would be interviewed by famed ring announcer Jimmie Lennon. He would sometimes say " I'd like to say hi to my nephews Jimmy and Gary who are watching. Then we would pretend to be asleep when he came home that night. He would turn the lights on and throw boxing gloves at us knowing we would wait up for him. That is the kind of loving Uncle I will always remember. A great champion, but even a better champion Uncle. Say Hi to my dad and the rest of the hevenly family. We will surely see you and them again one day. Love you, your nephew Jimmy Gray in SoCal

I wish to share my condolences with all of those who loved and spent time with my father. I am so thankful to have had the chance to let him know how very much he meant to me, before he passed on to a better place. I am also grateful that he spent his last years and days surrounded by people who loved him dearly. In my heart, he has remained and always will be my "Daddy", and a part of me will always be his little girl. He had a huge heart and a kind and generous spirit, and that spirit will live on in all of us. You will always be loved, Daddy, and you will never be forgotten.

Wayman was a neighbor of ours many years ago. When my husband worked midnights Wayman always kept an eye on my house. We had some really bad neighbors and he looked out for me and my kids when they were young when my husband worked. Super guy. I was just thinking about him the other day too! Wish you all the best.

I will always have nothing but fond memories of you Uncle Wayman. Us kids still talk about the "good old days" but they really were alot of fun listening to all the boxing stories with you, Joe and Papaw. I'm sure you are all talking about those same stories now in heaven.
