William "Bill" Casper Pierce February 21, 1929 - January 4, 2013 William Casper Pierce was born in Speedwell, Tennessee on February 21, 1929. He was one of eight children born from the union of the late William Franklin and the late Letishia (Burke) Pierce. The family moved to Monroe when Bill was one. He attended Lincoln School. Bill joined the United States Army at the age of 16, proudly serving his country through two enlistments obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He married the former Ada Dixon on October 10, 1951. From this union came the birth of five children. Bill supported his family as the owner and operator of two Custer-Leonard Gas Stations. He then went to work as a car salesman for more than twenty-nine years employed by Harry May Chevrolet and then Friendly Ford. After retirement, Bill returned to work for Friendly as a shuttle driver. William age 83 of Monroe passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Lutheran Home. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by two sisters: Millie Pridemore and Georgia Ellison; and five brothers: Herman, James, Albert Hugh, John, and Bernard Charles Pierce. To cherish his memory, he leaves a beloved wife of sixty-one years: Ada of Monroe; five children: Terry (Virginia) Pierce, Jerry (Penny) Pierce, Gary (Carol) Pierce, Tish Pierce (Chris) Fountain, and Sherri (Wally) Zub all of Monroe; thirteen grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. Bill enjoyed life and was always the life of the party. Talking was one of his favorite hobbies. He loved spending time with his family and watching sports. Bill had a brilliant smile, an incredible sense of humor, quick wit, and a compassionate heart. He looked forward to attending worship, and he served as a Deacon of Kentucky Park Missionary Baptist Church. Friends may gather from 12:00-8:00pm, Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. He will lie in state from 10:00am until A Celebration of His Life at 11:00am, Wednesday, January 9 at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church, 14260 South Dixie. Pastor Roy Southerland will officiate. Procession will follow to Roselawn with graveside services under the auspices of Monroe VFW Post 1138. Memorials are suggested to The Lutheran Home of Monroe or Mercy Memorial Hospice.
