Obituary of John Combs

John Harold Combs September 17, 1938 - October 20, 2012 John Harold Combs age 74 years of Monroe passed away at 1:30pm, Saturday, October 20, 2012 at his home. His loving family was all around him. John was the only child born from the union of Margie (Timberlake) and Leonard Combs born on September 17, 1938 in Laredo, West Virginia. He moved to Monroe as a child. John attended Monroe High School and graduated in 1956. He served his country honorably and proudly as a member of the United States Navy for six years. John enjoyed fishing and listening to country music. He was a sports fan and liked to watch NASCAR and Boxing. For many years, John worked as a roofer for Star Construction and Harper Construction Companies. He was married to JoAnn (Cordrey) Eastes on October 16, 1987. Together they had three children: Carla (Ted) Nash of Monroe, John Eastes (Nancy Kephart) of Monroe, and Darlene Hamlin (Thomas Stiffler) of Monroe; John also raised a granddaughter: Danielle Owens (Dawn Pine) as his own. He had nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. John's passing was preceded by his parents: Margie Timberlake and Leonard Combs, his great grandparents; and a great granddaughter: Nevaeh Buchanan, Monroe's Little Angel. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 7:00pm, Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. Veterans honors will follow at 7:00pm under the auspices of Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138 followed by a Celebration of His Life. Mike Anthony of the House of Restoration will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Combs Family to assist with funeral expenses.
