Obituary of Roy Morrison

Roy Kenneth Morrison March 30, 1933 - October 19, 2012 Roy Kenneth Morrison was born in Tazewell, Virginia on March 30, 1933. He was the son of the late William Morrison and the late Virginia (Earls) Morrison. Roy was a graduate of Tazewell High School. Roy married Cora Berry in Michigan in 1957. From this union came the birth of seven children. He moved to his present home in Erie in 1975. For thirty-seven years, Roy supported his family at Great Lakes Steel. Roy worked as a foreman and plant supervisor retiring in 1989. From 1984 until 1999, he owned and operated Roy's Dixie Delight at the corner of South Dixie and Edgewood in Erie. Roy was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed casting lines along the shores of Lake Erie. He was a people person enjoying deep conversation. Roy was a talented bowler and enjoyed shooting pool, and had played in several leagues over the years. He had a passion for his grandchildren and attended many of their extra-curricular activities. Roy's favorite pastime was visiting his "Turkey Creek" property in West Virginia where he loved to watch deer. Roy Kenneth Morrison age 79 of Erie passed away, Friday, October 19, 2012 at his home. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a sister: Tacie Noakes; and a brother: James Morrison. To cherish his memory he leaves seven children: Joyan (Chuck) Lynn of Scarborough, West Virginia, Royale (John) Thompson of Whitmore Lake, Roy Morrison II (Susan Quednau) of Onsted, William (Sandy) Morrison, formerly of Erie, Malana (Craig) Hubbard of Manchester, Cornelia Day of Wyandotte, Yolanda (Bob) Lane, formerly of Erie; one sister: Maxine (Jim) Andrews, five brothers: Kelson Morrison of Garden City, Marv (Katherine) Morrison of Northern Michigan, Carl (Marie) Morrison of Trenton, Edward (Joanne) Morrison of Ohio, Billy (Virginia) Morrison of Jacksonville, Florida; ten grandchildren: Victor (Andrea) Mender, Emory Day, Holly Calhoun, Brandon Dietrich, Kyle Thompson, Brent Dietrich, Matthew Thompson, Charlotte Lynn, Ashlynn Hubbard, Benjamin Hubbard.; one great grandson: Anthony Mender; and former spouse: Cora Morrison of West Virginia. Friends may gather from 2:00-7:00pm, Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Merkle Funeral Service, 9156 Summit Street in Erie (734) 848-5185. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 7:00pm.
