Obituary of Mark Carter

Please share a memory of Mark to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mark F. Carter was born in Pontiac, Michigan on April 26th, 1955 to Fred and Miriam Carter. He grew up in Orion Township, playing football for, and eventually graduating from, Lake Orion High School. He became a self-employed carpenter and with tireless effort, worked his way up the ladder in the construction industry. He can be credited for managing projects such as the movement and restoration of the University of Michigan President's home; restoration of the U of M Observatory; construction of Ford Field, Detroit; Citi Field, New York City; Nationals Park, Washington D.C.; and KC Royals stadium, Kansas City. Recently he worked with the Detroit Public Schools and was presently working for the Detroit Medical Center and was an active member of the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters. His life was filled with laughter, pranks, and good times. He and his beloved wife, Kathleen (Kwaiser) Carter, made their home on Estral Beach in Newport, Michigan where they constructed a 'concrete fortress', side by side. He loved animals, gardening and being part of nature. He yearned to be near water. His lake home was his sanctuary. Family always came first; daughter, Stephanie and wife, Kate were his world, a circle of trust which could never be broken. For years he traveled from all over the country, every Friday through Sunday to be with and care for his wife, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2006. In business he was fair, but fierce; a force to be reckoned with. He was a man who commanded respect just by being present. His opinions and experiences were held in highest regard and those close to him loved him dearly. Mark passed away October 13th, 2012 at age 57. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred and his exceptional wife, Kathleen. His memory, ideals and integrity are carried on by cherished daughter, Stephanie; mother, Miriam; and nephew Matthew. Those who met him will never forget his jovial laugh and quirky sense of humor. Words cannot express how greatly he will be missed. Friends may gather 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Monday, October 22, at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life follows at 7:00pm. According to his wishes cremation will take place and his cremains will be scattered with Kate's on Lake Erie. Memorial donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
