Obituary of Walter Slaughterbeck

Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Walter "Bud" Clarence Slaughterbeck February 9, 1948-September 6, 2012 Walter "Bud" Clarence Slaughterbeck was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 9, 1948. He was the son of the late Walter Scott Slaughterbeck and the late Anna Mae (Pratt) Slaughterbeck. He attended Sylvania High School and graduated with the class of 1967. For many years Walter supported his family by working as a truck driver working in all parts of the country and hauling countless different items. He retired in 1999 after more than twenty years. Walter was a man who usually got what he wanted, when he wanted. He was quick witted and he could be quite stubborn. Walter was always a do-it-yourselfer. He loved to spend time with others in conversation about anything and everything, priding himself on staying up to date on current events. One of Walters favorite pastimes was listening to the Tigers game on his front porch while enjoying the company of his son and a cigarette. He was talented with his hand and painstakingly did woodworking and rehabbed furniture. As a young man he would play cards with friends for days, and as he got older could play solitaire for hours by himself. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. Walter loved animals and shared his home with dogs: Nakita and Nachee, and cat: Kallie. Walter "Bud" Slaughterbeck age 64 of Monroe passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at his home. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a sister: Judy Slaughterbeck and a brother: Randy Slaughterbeck. To cherish his memory he leaves his wife: Linda of Monroe; two sons: Sean Slaughterbeck of Monroe and Todd (Casey) Friess of Big island, Virginia; a beloved aunt: Hanna Judy of Tennessee; three brothers: Duane (Dorothy) Slaughterbeck of Monroe, Ron ( Cindy) Slaughterbeck of Sylvania, and Terry (Peggy) Slaughterbeck of Toledo; two sisters: Marsha (Danny) Stone of Toledo and Lynn (Bob) Studyvan of Wisconsin; three grandchildren: Katrina, Brodie, and T.J. Friess; and one great granddaughter: Alexis Friess. Friends may gather from 2:00-7:00pm, Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 7:00pm with Bobby Paul officiating. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
