Obituary of Warren Diegel

Warren Kenneth Diegel was born in Wyandotte on October 4, 1945. He was the son of the late Leo Russel and Blanche Cleo (Stringfellow) Diegel. Warren was a 1963 graduate of Trenton High School where he was a wrestling champion. During the Vietnam Conflict, Warren served his country honorably as a member of the United States Marine Corp. He demonstrated his ''brotherly love" by saving the life of a fellow Marine and was awarded the Bronze Star for valor. He later would obtain his Master's Degree from University of Detroit Mercy. Warren married, the former Nancy Ann Laura on November 12, 1966 in Rockwood. From this union came the birth of two children. Warren supported his family for more than thirty years as a factory and clerical worker at the Chrysler Corporation and Ford Motor Company. He was a member of the UAW. For the past 20 years he was extremely active with Veteran's organizations attending several different conventions. Warren was the former president of Michigan State Council of Vietnam Veterans of America, a Chapter Member of VVA Post 142, and VFW Post 1138. In 2009 he was selected as the Michigan Veteran of the year for serving fellow veterans. Warren Kenneth Diegel age 66 of Onsted passed away Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Hospice of Lenawee. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by brother, Russell and sisters, Janet Diegel and Kristen Markakis. To cherish his memory he leaves his wife Nancy of Onsted two children: Angela Ostdiek of Monroe and David Diegel of Walled Lake; step-father: Robert and Sherri Polgar of Grosse Ile; four sisters: Roberta (Ed) Heineman of New Boston, Patti (Vic) Watkins of Virginia, Jennifer (Greg) Kish, and Jeanie (Chris) Labadie both of Grosse Ile; two brothers: Mike (Lori) Polgar of Grosse Ile and Mark (Sandy) Polgar of Trenton. Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm, Tuesday, September 4, and from 12:00-4:30pm, Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Merkle's. Pastor Louie Barnett officiating. Burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly under full military honors 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2012. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to VVA Michigan State Council, Monroe VFW Post 1138, or VVA Post 142 .
