Obituary of Marie Bitz

Marie (Durocher) Bitz passed from this world Monday, August 27, 2012. She was received into the loving arms of the Heavenly Lord and her beloved husband of 39 years. Marie was born on March 1, 1931 in Monroe the daughter of the late Theadore Durocher and the late Ilda Christine (Krug) Durocher. Marie was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She made her first Holy Communion and Confirmation at St. Mary's Academy in 1948. Marie graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1956. Marie married Edward L. Bitz, Jr. on May 16, 1959 at St. John's Church by the Reverend Mos. Wm. Shaw. She worked at Bargain City for 13 years, until its closing. She then opened a nail shop, "Fabulous Nails", closing after her husband passed away. Since 1997 she has been employed at Medical Billing and Consulting, a job she truly loved. Marie did a lot of traveling. Her favorite place was Hawaii. She was a member of the Frenchtown Senior Center. She enjoyed square dancing, Swedish weaving, bowling, cross stitching, crocheting, and crossword puzzles. Marie is survived by three sons: Joseph (JoAnn) Bitz of Monroe, Edward (Stacy) Bitz III of Monroe, and Richard (Jill) Bitz of Kentucky; two daughters: Kristine "Kris" (Greg) Monday and Kellie (Dale) Bashaw both of Monroe; a brother: Wayne (Ruth) Durocher of Freesoil, Michigan; sixteen grandchildren: Danielle (Alex) Glass of Texas, Marc Bitz of Monroe, Jonathan Bitz of Monroe, Arrica, Ana, Aaron, and Alexa Bitz all of Monroe, Ricky (Whitney) Bitz of Kentucky, Nikki Bitz of Kentucky, Tyler Bitz of LaSalle, Corey Bitz of LaSalle, Katie, Brandon, Jimmy Monday of Monroe; and Paige and Ashley Bashaw of Monroe; one great grandson on the way: Brady James Bitz; and one beloved companion her Yorkie: Princess. Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185 where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. She will lie in state from 1:00pm until the Mass of the Resurrection at 2:00pm, Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at IHM, Motherhouse Chapel, 610 West Elm. Father Robert Singelyn officiating. Procession will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery for burial. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, or Monroe County Humane Society.
