Obituary of Shirley Ann Turner

Shirley Anna Palmer was born in Carleton, Michigan on December 15, 1938. She was one of eight children born from the union of the late Leonard C. Palmer and Emily A. (Eby) Palmer. Shirley attended the Longbridge one-room school house in Carleton. Shirley married the late Walter Jr. Turner on May 5, 1956 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Carleton. She blessed to stay at home to raise their five wonderful children who grew up to make her very proud. Shirley was very kind and had a sweet spirit about her. She lived for taking care of her children. Throughout the years she was a caretaker for many families and their children also. Shirley loved to cook, spend summers at their family cabin, go sightseeing & especially liked to play the “lottery”. In recent years she enjoyed going for walks at Sterling State Park. In her quiet time, Shirley enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, her aquarium, bird watching and her feline companion, “Nala.” Shirley loved spending quality time with her best friend & sister Liz. Shirley Ann Turner, age 77, of Monroe went home to be with the angels at 2:30pm on October 5, 2016 with her family by her side. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by her former spouse: Walter Junior Turner of thirty-eight years; one brother: Frederick Palmer; three sisters: Catherine Gasiorek, Mary Vanderbush and Eileen Colf; and sister-in-law: Rosemary Palmer. To cherish her memory, she leaves her children: Ronnie (Kathleen) Turner of Carleton, Glenda Turner of Monroe, Keith (Lorna) Turner of Monroe, Kevin Turner of Monroe and Kim Turner of Monroe; one grandson: Ian Turner; one sister: Elizabeth (Orlo) Hopkins of Carleton; two brothers: Leonard “Bud” Palmer of Carleton and Joseph “Joe” (Sandy) Palmer of Carleton; a sister-in-law: Ruth Palmer of Carleton; and a brother-in-law: Elden Colf of Carleton. Friends may gather on Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street Monroe (734)384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 11:00am on Monday, October 10, 2016 also at Merkle’s with Sister Kate O’Brien of Immaculate Heart of Mary officiating. Procession will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery for burial.
