Obituary of Betty Turner

Betty S. Williams was born in Harrogate, Tennessee on December 9, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Joseph F.O. Williams and the late Beulah Mae (Dobbs) Williams. She attended Forge Ridge School and later earned her GED. She worked many jobs throughout the years to support her family. She had been employed as a custodian for the Ann Arbor Public Schools, worked as a crossing guard for the Willow Run School District and even as a security guard. She also of course was a homemaker to her four children and worked as a caretaker for others. Betty was a woman of great faith and she had attended church at Graceway Baptist, Calvary Baptist, and Ypsilanti Missionary Baptist. She had worked with prison ministry for many years. In her later years she enjoyed reading. Her choice selections were usually Christian books including Guide Post, Daily Bread and the Bible. She loved to play basketball, work in the garden including breaking beans and canning, and was an avid quilter. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and take them places. She loved God's creations and especially flowers and the birds. Betty S. Turner age 70 of Ypsilanti passed away at 2:23am, Sunday, September 4, 2011 at the Arbor Hospice Residence. Her passing was preceded by her parents and two brothers: David E. and Joseph C. Williams. To cherish her memory she leaves four children: Rev. William L. (Anita) Kibert of Sneedville, TN, Rev. Jeffrey L. (Denise) Kibert of Maryville, TN, Karen A. (Louis) Wherry of Ypsilanti, and Kenneth J. (Diane) Turner of Monroe; sister: Judy A. Cavins of Belleville; brother: Rev. Marvin Dale (Barbara) Williams of Carleton; sister-in-law: Vera Williams of Monroe; eight grandchildren: Billie Jean (matt) Adkins, Joseph W.S. (Simone) Kibert, Mary Anne Maviglia, Jeffrey L. (Chelsea) Kibert II, Katie M. Kibert, Julia E.T. Kibert, Kenneth Turner II, and Melissa Dawn Wherry; and six great grandchildren with one on the way. Friends may gather from 1:00-8:00pm, Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185 where a Celebration of Her Life will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 7. The Rev. John E. Bussell and Pastor Mike Cunningham will co-officiate. Procession will follow to Roselawn for burial.
