Jimmie Cavins October 6, 1943 - May 2, 2011 Jimmie Cavins was born in Monroe, Michigan on October 6, 1943. He was born from the union of the late Orville "Ed" Cavins and Pearlie (Dixon) Cavins. He was a 1962 graduate of Jefferson High School. A lifelong Monroe resident Jimmie had received his spiritual nourishment while attending Hope Missionary Baptist Church and Kentucky Park Missionary Baptist Church both in Monroe. Jimmie liked to work with his hands, and he could often be found fixing things. As a young man he enjoyed playing softball and baseball and had also liked fishing and hunting. He was very talented as a musician and could often be found strumming his guitar. Jimmie was an avid Detroit Tiger fan. For many years Jimmie was employed as a laborer and worked maintenance for Woolf Aircraft. He retired in 2007. Jimmie Cavins age 67 of Monroe passed away at 10:37pm, Monday, May 2, 2011 in the emergency room of Mercy Memorial Hospital. His passing was preceded by his father in September of 1989 and a sister Carolyn Mills. His memory will forever be cherished by his mother: Pearlie Cavins of Monroe; a daughter: Deborah Cavins of Belleville; two sons: Dontao Cavins of Monroe and Anthony Cavins of Monroe; one sister: Betty (Kyle) Moore of Monroe; three brothers: Randy (Judy) Skidmore of Monroe, Johnny (Sally) Harper of Monroe, and David (Zeta) Cavins of Lafayette, Indiana; and two grandchildren: Derick Cavins-Moore of Belleville and Danika Cavins-Mason of Belleville. Friends may gather from 3:00pm until 8:00pm, Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 and from 11:00am until a Celebration of His Life at 1:00pm, Thursday, May 5, 2011 also at Merkle's with Reverend Mike Cunningham pastor of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial. Memorial donations are suggested to the family for his children.
