Charles "Tex" V. Bowen August 8, 1925 - January 21, 2011 Charles V. Bowen was born in Austin, Texas on August 8, 1925. He was one of three children born of the union of the late Charles Bowen and the late Bell Zora (Anderson) Bowen. Charles served his country honorably as a member of the United States Marine Corp during World War II. His enlistment lasted from September 28, 1943 until September 18, 1945 obtaining the rank of Sergeant. Charles worked as a union carpenter for many years. In 2000 he retired after more than fifty years as a carpenter. He married the former Marian Young on August 24, 1981 in Toledo. Charles raised her children as his own. He was known for being a good man, easy going, generous, and caring. Charles or "Tex" as his friends called him loved his family especially his grandchildren, and he was a wonderful father and husband. Charles was an avid fisherman. It was said that he personally caught half of the fish out of Lake Erie. He loved the freedom of the water and spending time on his boat "Gone Fishin" Charles V. Bowen age 85 of Erie, Michigan passed away at 1:59am, Friday, January 21, 2011 at his home with his adoring family by his side. He had been under the care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a brother: Frank and a sister: Mildred. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife: Marian (Young) Bowen of Erie, Michigan; daughters: Diana (John) Fellers of Arizona and Tina Barney of Toledo; a son: Donald Sherrick of Erie, Michigan; five grandchildren: Michelle (John) Pohlmeyer of Toledo, Tara Needham of Monroe, and Jennifer (Gary) Moore of Toledo, Lucas Fellers, and Marc Fellers; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and his caregiver and close family friend: Cindy Welshans. Cremation has taken place. Friends may gather from 2:00-7:00pm on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 9156 Summit Street; Erie (734) 848-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 7:00pm with Pastor Robert Hinz of Bedford Alliance Church officiating and veteran's services under the auspices of Erie VFW Post 3925. Private burial of his cremains will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
