Viola Elizabeth Vanisacker January 10, 1920 - February 10, 2011 Viola Elizabeth Kettinger was born in Monroe, Michigan on January 10, 1920. She was one of five children born from the union of the late Herman Kettinger and the late Clara (Matthes) Kettinger. She attended Monroe Public Schools. On September 24, 1938 she married the love of her life Raymond Vanisacker at the Zion Lutheran Church. Together they would share the birth of three children: Herbie, Judy, and James and more than seventy years of marriage before Raymond's passing on March 9, 2009. Viola was a homemaker. Family was always important to her. She was a very loving mother and played an active role in her children's lives serving countless hours as a 4H leader. Later in life she experienced the joy of grandchildren, and always made the most of her time with them. Since childhood Viola had been attending Zion Lutheran Church. Viola enjoyed playing cards with her Ladies Card Club. In her free time, Viola could often be found taking care of the family's garden or sewing. Viola Elizabeth Vanisacker age 91 of Monroe passed away at 2:30pm, Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. She had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. In addition to her parents, and her husband Raymond, her passing was preceded by three brothers: Otto Kettinger, Wilbur Kettinger and Clarence Kettinger, a sister: Bernice Longworth; and a beloved son: Herbie Vanisacker. To cherish her memory she leaves a daughter: Judy Demuth of Ida, a son: James and daughter-in-law: Kathy Vanisacker of Monroe; five grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. Friends may gather from 1:00pm until 6:00pm, Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. She will lie in state from 10:00am until a Celebration of Her Life at 11:00am, Monday, February 14, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church, 186 Cole Road. A funeral luncheon where all are invited will follow. Private graveside services will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Monroe where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. In lieu of flowers memorial donations for those who desire are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church or Mercy Memorial Hospice.
