Wellburn Eugene Leach June 9, 1930 - January 24, 2011 Wellburn Eugene Leach was born in Speedwell, Tennessee on June 9, 1930. He was one of four children born from the union of the late Tint Leach and the late Louvina "Vina" (Wright) Leach. Wellburn moved to the Monroe area at the age of 17. He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army from May 7, 1951 until February 7, 1953 when he transferred to the Army Reserve until his discharge on January 11, 1957. Wellburn married Eleanor Servey, and from this union came the birth of three children. He worked for more than twenty-eight years for the Ford Motor Company at their Monroe Stamping plant. Wellburn worked as a mechanic in the skilled trade department. He took a medical retirement in 1981. Wellburn was a member of the United Auto Workers 723 in Monroe. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He had attended Grace Lutheran Church where he had been baptized and confirmed. Wellburn Eugene Leach age 80 of Monroe passed away at Mercy Memorial Nursing Center at 7:45pm, Monday, January 24, 2011. He had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by two brothers: T.J. Leach and Avon Leach. He leaves to cherish his memory a son: David (Sandy) Leach of Newport; two daughters: Dianna Leach of Monroe and Denise (Bob) Spindleman of Mio; four grandchildren: Ian Leach, Ethan Leach, Alexander Spindleman, and Christopher Leach; and a sister: Mary Leach of Monroe. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 11:00am, Friday, January 28, 2011 with the Rev. Jim Jacobs Director of Chaplaincy Services for Mercy Memorial Hospital officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested in Wellburn's name to Relay for Life or to Alzheimer's Research.
