Irene Kipf July 20, 1923 - May 9, 2008 Irene Kipf, age 84, of Monroe, passed away at 1:40 am, Friday Morning, May 9, 2008 at the Lutheran Home. Irene was born July 20, 1923 in Claiborne County, Tennessee to the union of the late Willie Evans and the late Zona (Moyers) Evans. She was married to George Johns, Earl Green, and Fred Kipf all whom passed away before her. While living in Tennessee Irene and George owned and operated the Cumberland Gap Café. For many years, Irene worked as a waitress. She was also a homemaker. Irene took employment with the Lutheran Home in housekeeping. She worked for 15 years before retiring in 1990. She enjoyed dancing, telling jokes, and especially helping others. She loved the great outdoors. Her favorite activities included hunting and fishing with her husbands. In 1960 she received the Monroe Rod and Gun Club's Non-Member Skeet Shooting Champion award. She was a faithful member of the Liberty Baptist Church of Monroe. She is survived by a daughter and her husband: Arwada and Jim Liedel of Monroe; a brother: Vantoy Evans of Bean Station, Tennessee; three grandchildren: Robert and (Heather) Fleemon of Monroe, Michael Fleemon of Portland, Oregon, and Joe Liedel of Monroe; three great grandchildren: Loi Raven Fleemon of Arcata, California, Robert Michael Fleemon of Monroe, and Jacob Helka of Monroe. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Her parents; all three husbands; five brothers: Herman, Roy, Grantville, Millard, and Robert; two sisters: Lula Gilbert and Flossie Turner; and two half-sisters: Cora Evans and Florence McNew passed away before her. Friends may gather Sunday; May 11, 2008 from 1-8pm at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, Frenchtown Township, (734) 384-5185. She will lie in state at the Chapel of the Incarnation at the Lutheran Home, 1236 South Monroe Street, Monroe from 10am until a Celebration of Her Life at 11am. Pastor John Shinkle, Chaplain of the Lutheran Home and Pastor Bob Baltrip of Liberty Baptist Church will co-officiate. Procession to Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle will follow for burial. The family has suggested memorials be made to the Lutheran Home of Monroe, Alzheimer's Research Association, or to the Liberty Baptist Church.
