William Auther McCarty
September 13, 1932 - January 11, 2011
William Auther McCarty was born in Monroe, Michigan on September 13, 1932. He was one of nine children born from the union of the late John Alexander McCarty and the late Beulah (Long) McCarty. William served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army where he also was able to obtain his GED.
He was proud of his heritage, his country, and of being an American Veteran. William was a member of the French-Canadian Society of Monroe. He had attended the Kentucky Park Missionary Baptist Church also of Monroe.
William was a loving father. His children stated that he had a heart of gold. William was a big push over and in fact he didn't know how to say no. He was also however well-known for being a hard worker and a big talker. William loved Georgia, the Atlanta Braves, and his dogs: Sassy, Sidekick, and Friend.
He married the former Rebecca Williams. William worked for Monroe Rubber and Plastics as a hydraulics specialist. He had also worked as a machine operator and laborer, and had been employed in the restaurant industry.
William Auther McCarty age 78 of Monroe passed away at 2:35pm, Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. His passing in addition to his parents was preceded by a son: Johnny, a granddaughter: Heather; sisters: June, Evelyn, and Janette, an infant brother and a brother: John Edward McCarty.
He leaves to cherish his memory six children: Vincent McCarty and Victor (Shanie) McCarty both of Georgia, Jody McCarty of Jackson, William, Steven, and Savannah McCarty all of Monroe; three sisters: Ethel (Lavern) Perry of Gaylord, Michigan, Barbara Simpkins, of Adrian, Michigan, and Phyllis Klocke of Adrian, Michigan; seven beloved grandchildren; and a former spouse and caretaker: Rebecca McCarty of Monroe.
Friends may gather from 3:00pm until 8:00pm, Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 where a Celebration of His Life will take place at 10:00am on Friday, January 14, 2011. Brother Terry Pierce of Kentucky Park Missionary Baptist will officiate. Private burial will take place at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to the family.
