Loyd George Sype August 24, 1922 - December 5, 2010 Loyd Sype was born August 24, 1922 to George and Loretta (Berns) Sype in Newport at the Post Road Farm where he lived until marrying Ivy L. Webb on February 23, 1952. Loyd served in the Michigan State Troop in the 1940′s while the National Guard was activated for two years. He obtained the rank of Sergeant before the troop was deactivated. Loyd was employed by the Monroe County Road Commission for 33.5 years, and retired on February 1, 1986. He served on many county boards and commissions; Monroe County Animal Advisory, Monroe County Tax Allocation, Monroe County Resource Recovery, charter member of Monroe County Storm Water Task Force, later including the roads and bridges, and with many boards of determination for the drain commission. He served as London Township Trustee for four years, and performed local dog census for many years. He served the River Raisin Watershed Council, Monroe County Community Foundation, Monroe County Commission on Aging, Maybee Library Advisory, and twenty plus years on the planning commission. Loyd served with his wife as a 4H leader and assisted with her home Amway and interior design businesses. He enjoyed small game hunting, playing cards, and watching softball and baseball on television and at the field. Loyd age 88 passed away on Sunday, December 5. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by sons: Loyd Sype in 1958 and Charles Sype on February 10, 2007; brother: Carl Sype; sisters: Leeta, and Violet, Betty Hoppert and Donna Stutsman; half-sister: Velma Reed; half-brother: Ross Sype; and daughter-in-law: Kathy Sype. He is survived by his wife: Ivy; three sons: Peter (Anita) Sype of Ypsilanti, Glen (Jennifer) Sype of Monroe, Eric Sype of Maybee; a daughter-in-law: Connie Sype of Dundee; one brother: William (Bonnie) Sype of Monroe; one sister: Maxine Evans of Monroe; six grandchildren: Charles Sype Jr., Dawn Sype, Peter Sype, Cassandra Sype, Nicole Sype, and Lucas Sype; four great grandchildren; many step grandchildren; many nieces and nephews Friends may gather from 4:00pm until 8:00pm, Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 where a Celebration of His Life will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, December 8, 2010. Dr. Timothy Lentner will officiate. Private burial will take place at St. Paul Cemetery. Donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Mercy Memorial Hospice.
