Charles "David" Longworth September 25, 1951 - September 22, 2010 Charles David Longworth was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on September 25, 1951. He was the oldest of two boys born from the union of the late Charlie Longworth and Ruby (Smith) Longworth. He attended Monroe High School and graduated with the Class of 1969. He also attended the University of Toledo and Owens Tech for trade school. Charles worked for General Motors at their Toledo Powertrain Plant. He worked as a Tool Maker and retired as a Metrologist on July 1, 2008 after 39.8 years of service. He was a member of the UAW Local 14. He married the love of his life the former Rosie Giles in Maybee, Michigan on December 18, 1971. David was a mountain of a man, and his size was intimidating to most. Once meeting David his generous heart would show right through. He was an avid bowler playing in several leagues. He was a member of the United States Bowling Congress. He loved the challenge of a game of chess or checkers. David also enjoyed spending time with his grandson: Zachary playing games, completing math homework, or just watching television; especially SpongeBob. Charles "David" Longworth age 58, of Temperance passed away at 12:25am, Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the Toledo Hospital where he had been since Sunday, September 19. In addition to his father on February 21, 1982 his passing was preceded by a father-in-law: Harley Giles, and a grandson: Jacob Carr. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of nearly thirty-nine years: Rosie of Temperance; a daughter: Charity Carr of Temperance; his mother: Ruby Longworth of Monroe; his brother: Douglas E. (fiancé Leeann Webb) of Monroe; a grandson: Zachary Carr of Temperance; mother-in-law: Jessie Giles of Monroe; brother-in-law: David (Robin) Giles of Newport; three nieces: Paige Nicole Longworth, Jennifer Sonoras, and Natalie Giles; three nephews: Hunter Preston Longworth, Aaron Bauer, and Austin Giles. Friends may gather from 1:00pm until 8:00pm, Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 where a Celebration of His Life will be held at 11:00am, Monday, September 27, 2010 with the Rev. John Bullard pastor of True Gospel Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
