Obituary of Aaron Mayes

Please share a memory of Aaron to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Aaron Daniel Mayes July 23, 1933 - September 14, 2010 Aaron Daniel Mayes was born in Monroe, Michigan on July 23, 1933. He was born from the union of the late Fred and the late Josephine (Lawson) Mayes. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1953-1955. Aaron married his true love Louise Clark on November 26, 1955 in Monroe. For more than thirty years he worked for Ford Motor Company as a Powerhouse Operator. He spent ten years at the Monroe Plant before spending twenty at the Brownstown Plant retiring in 1990. He was a man of many talents, carpentry, electrical, etc… building two homes for his own family and helping on homes for other family members. Aaron had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. He was a family man and family meant everything to him. His children even stated that he was "born to love". Aaron loved gardening, and being a hard worker he took over the kitchen at home after retirement. His homemade soup and bread were special neighborhood treats. Aaron loved to entertain at family Sunday get-togethers. He was an avid Red Wing fan. Some would say he was even an armchair coach. Aaron loved holding babies, and had the type of personality that children would flock to. It wasn't a surprise, however, since he was never too busy to perform a song or dance for his young audience. Aaron age 77 of Carleton passed away at 10:25pm, Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at his home. He had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by siblings: Mary Ruth, Eugene, and Robert Mayes, and Naomi Siffer. His memory will forever be cherished by his wife Louise of Carleton; three children: Kevin (Denise) Mayes of Monroe, Dawn (John) Simmons of Carleton, and Julie (Tom) Gerhardt of Monroe; sister: Donna Matthews; sister-in-law: Carolyn Mayes; seven grandchildren: Aaron, Kevin Jr., Rodney, Korey, April (Jason), Rachel, and Nicole; eight great grandchildren; and three step grandchildren. Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm, Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 where a Celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am, Monday, September 20.
