Betty Jean (McLaughlin) Roberts February 2, 1934 - February 14, 2012 Betty Jean McLaughlin was born in Monroe, Michigan on February 2, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Harold McLaughlin and the late Dorothy (Sachse) McLaughlin. She attended Airport High School. Betty married Erwin S. Roberts on June 14, 1952 at St. Mary Parish in Monroe. From this union came the birth of three daughters. Betty worked as a custodian and librarian for the Airport Community Schools for many years before her retirement. She was very outgoing and enjoyed her membership with the Frenchtown Senior Citizens where she enjoyed volunteering. Betty loved to play bingo and was a frequent fixture at St. Anne Parish. She was an avid rollerblader. Betty loved to take her dog for walks and liked to visit the Lake Erie shoreline and watch the waves from the park swings. She was a loving mother and grandmother and she cherished the time that was shared with each of her family members. Betty Jean McLaughlin age 78 of Monroe passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by her husband: Erwin on December 6, 1980. To cherish her memory she leaves three beloved daughters: Tonia (Dave) Grabetz Sr. of Carleton, Debra (Thomas) Almas of Monroe, and Lenee Aspden and Scott Harris of Monroe; one sister: Shirley (George) Morris of Mason; one brother: Robert (Nancy) McLaughlin of Carleton; eight grandchildren: David Grabetz Jr., Wendy (Joe) Freitag, Heather Calkins, Tyla Aspden, Dylan Aspden, Andrew Harris, Tonie (Kenneth) Owens, Suzette Almas; ten great grandchildren Friends may call from 1:00pm until 8:00pm, Friday, February 17, 2012 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, February 18, 2012 also at Merkle's. The Rev. David Jones pastor of Northbrook Church in Carleton will officiate. Procession will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe for burial. Memorial donations for those who desire are suggested to the wishes of the family.
