Charles E. Ankney November 11, 1935 - November 30, 2007 Charles Elige Ankney, age 72, went to be with his Lord, Friday evening in the comfort of his own home in Luna Pier. His loving family was near his side. Friends may gather from 2-8:00pm, Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the Merkle Funeral Home, 2442 North Monroe Street, Frenchtown Township. Charles' Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00am, Thursday also at the funeral home with the Rev. Rick Massingill of the North Monroe Street Church of God officiating. Procession and burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Charles was born on November 11, 1935 in Defiance, Ohio the son of George and Margaret (Mitchell) Ankney. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1958 to 1960. He had obtained the rank of PFC 1st class. On September 15, 1961 he was married to Mary Benson in Monroe, Michigan by the Justice of the Peace. For more than thirty-fours years Charles served the Dura Corporation in Toledo. He worked as a Co-Header. In 1988 Charles took a medical retirement. Since retiring, Charles, has enjoyed traveling and camping. Family trips involved places such as Niagra Falls, Yellowstone Park, and all parts of Tennessee. He especially liked their visits to The Grand Ole Opry and Graceland. Charles was an avid fisherman. He had a knack for finding the Perch and Walleye. He and his wife Mary also enjoyed deer hunting together for more than 35 years. Charles also enjoyed listening to "Old Hillbilly Country" and Elvis Presley. In addition to his wife of forty-six years, Mary; Charles is survived by two daughters: Roxianne Bucklew of Toledo and Dawn and Mark Schmidt of Petersburg; a son: Charles and Pam Ankney of Toledo; two brothers: Norm and Ann Ankney of Glendora, California and Richard Ankney of Tecumseh; one sister: Juanita Petrowski of Luna Pier; and four grandchildren: Melissa Schmidt and her fiancé Eric Jambor, Nicole Schmidt, John Ankney, and Christopher Bucklew. For those desiring, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or to the Monroe County Humane Society.
